Please do not come here if you haven’t seen the film. It is an epic conclusion 11 years in the making. Regardless of how much you like superhero movies, it is a huge milestone that will likely never be replicated or surpassed.
After the film yesterday I had such good discussion with random strangers about the plot and questions and awesome moments while the credits were rolling, however as soon as we stepped into the lobby we had to put it all on hold to avoid ruining the experience for others waiting in line.
So, I decided to create this post for discussion of the plot and spoilers. Did you have questions about what happened? Do you want to geek out over something? Go wild. This is a spoiler filled zone! So don’t scroll down to the comments unless you have seen the film or are otherwise okay with the story being spoiled.
There are so many geek out moments where my whole theater erupted in applause or collectively went awww. Here are a couple of my favorites.
– Cap wielding Mjolnir.
– That 2nd Captain Marvel Reveal (I had honestly forgotten all about her)
– Avengers Assemble!
– The Back to the Future Jokes
– I am Iron Man
I mean this was nerd candy! So good.
The biggest question / plothole that I saw was how did Thanos get his ship and that whole army through the portal? Nebula only had one Pym particle for her return trip so how did Thanos get tiny to show up later?
Did anyone notice that kid at the funeral towards the back? The camera kind of lingered on him for just a minute, but I have heard some people say it was the kid from Iron Man 3 all grown up. Any other theories?
I think it was confirmed it was the same actor. I think partly to create buzz after folks have seen it and, possibly to set him up as a/the tech genius for, at the least, Stark Industries if not for Avengers 2.0 (3.0?)
I mean that does make sense, but he needed a nametag or something. Do you think we could get an Iron Man 4 down the road with his daughter taking on the mantle?
I kind of think that Nick would form a new set of Avengers -with Spidey and maybe the grown up kid from Iron Man 3? They might be the new duo of Marvel after Captain America and Tony Stark. I don’t know if I make sense. Lol.
Pepper and Rhodey are still there too. There was not a very defined passing of the Iron Man mantle like we had with Cap. Spider-Man is the obvious heir but it would be cool to see more.
One of the guys in the theater asked me afterwards why Vision wasn’t brought back, so just in case it wasn’t clear, anyone vanished by the snap was brought back to the new timeline without changing anything else that had happened during the 5 year gap.
Vision (as well as others like Loki, Heimdall, and Gamora) were not brought back because their deaths were not caused by the snap.
I was really surprised by the scene on Vormir to get the soul stone, I thought Hawkeye would be the one to go.
Me too! When I realized that it was the two of them going to get it, my money would have been on Hawkeye sacrificing himself. I heard someone say that he shouldn’t have gotten the stone because he didn’t sacrifice her, she sacrificed herself.
Honestly, there were parts I really liked and it was hard to see some favorite characters go but I was disappointed that they never used the hulks full potential and that the climactic battle at the end ended so quickly. Kinda fell flat for me ?. After such a long time of waiting I can truly say the MCU is something I’m glad to have a brake from.
I was really happy to get Professor Hulk though and his story arc from leaving in the ship to being found on Sakaar in Thor: Ragnarok to having him be the one to bring everyone back seemed like poetic justice.
I guess we will see how the wrap up phase 3 in Far From Home and then it’s onto phase 4. I’m not tired of it yet. As long as they keep making them (especially this good) they can have my money.
Can anyone explain the part where all other Avengers got back to the scene of Captain America fighting Thanos? I’m sorry but I’m a little bit confused how did they all come from the orange circle thing?
So Hulk’s snap brought them all back to life in the present time while not messing with all the other stuff that happened in the past 5 years. Spidey explains it a little in his ramblings while he’s reuniting with Tony. He says that he got dusty (so did we all) and then woke up on Titan with Dr. Strange and the other Guardians. Once Dr. Strange knew that they were back he knew what timeline they were in and knew that he needed to rally the troops and get to Avengers headquarters which just happened to be where the fight was going down.
Here’s a huge video from the folks over at ScreenCrush going through over 200 “Easter Eggs” in Endgame. Some of them are a stretch and others are really obvious, but it’s a fun watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nn6UGINv9SA
